Can I install my Rheem heat pump in the same way as my old Fury electric water heater and in the same location? Are the required amps and volts the same?

heat pumps vs Fury
by: Anonymous

It depends. Rheem heat pump is the electric water heater with the heat pump technology, which uses the surrounding warm air, compressor and evaporator to heat water. It is known as the hybrid and can utilize the heating elements, HP technology or combined.

With its narrow 21 diameter, 24 AMP draw, 208-230 V and standard ¾” water connections, the unit easily replaces the standard electric heater, but…

As opposed to your Fury, Rheem heat pump requires a room with the approximate size of 10’x10’x10’ so it can provide enough air for the heat pump operation, also the condensate line to the appropriate drain spot. Installation in the closet or confined space is not allowed while sometimes the louvered door is sufficient.

Both water heaters should be installed near the area of greatest hot water demand, such as the kitchen or bathrooms. The plumbing lines that connect the unit with the distant sinks have to be insulated in order to reduce the energy loss and prevent freezing. It is recommended that the distance from the walls and other elements allows easy service and maintenance, such as the minimum clearance from the top of the unit to the ceiling should be 8” so there will be enough air circulation.
